Entry 552; Day 1153

No, I will admit that I had not expected things to ever get quite so bad as this. I think I had believed the sand would inconvenience us for a time and then disappear again. Or, perhaps, it might reveal something more or perhaps it could be tied to something more. But I suppose it does rather prove my idea that this was something more than a curse. Though I don't think the question has entirely been answered even yet: how much worse will it become? And, truly, what does it mean?

Riff--I'm not even certain where you are at the moment--we've supplies enough in the basement of the opera house for emergencies such as this. We've water and I think we shall want for that soon enough. The opera house itself seems to be standing well enough for the moment, though I hesitate to be to certain about that. Rumours are flying about collapsing buildings and parts of the City going to ruin. I'd say we ought to hide in the basement of the opera house itself once again--and, admittedly, I do think it would be rather cooler underground, but I've seen a few buildings themselves topple into piles of sand both of late and some time before and I should rather not trap myself underground if there is such a risk of collapse. I think we had better be prepared to move if things should become any worse. I've prepared my things, such as I think I'll need or must carry with me. I'd recommend you do the same. We've enough on which to live for some time.

I'd claim I've some knowledge of deserts, since that does seem to be what the City is turning into, thanks to the madness of other curses when I've thought myself the sultan of Turkey or a traveler somewhere in the western reaches of America. But that would be a bit much, I think.

I'm not sure where we might be expected to go and I do feel that things will turn worse before they improve. That's always the way of the City. One can be sure that things can only get worse until the improve.

I suppose we ought to be glad that it doesn't seem to be an invasion. Not yet, at least. The 'deities' seem to be rather silent about all this too. And no new faces amongst them either. But I still think there's more to this than first appears.

This is most certainly not the end of this ordeal.

[ooc: Note!! Due to the weirdness of the barrier between the Cities, Cain's filter probably only works in the City in which he is. So...it might fail on the other side. Static is rampant over there, sure, but...you might not be locked out. Also, to Cain's credit, he's not hauling a lot of things. He knows when to abandon ship. Now, that doesn't mean he's leaving the valuable poisons behind (shhh!), but he'll leave quite a lot (he'll get it back in the Glass City, once he gets there).]
