One thing that is pretty swell about May is that after Cinco de Mayo, all the tequila is cheaper. I think they got plenty of specials going on. I've always been a guy who likes his Mexican food and drink. South of the border is where the good shit is at. The bad shit too. What's a few bad patches though to get what you want? Anywhere you go, there'll be crime. Some places you can see it without having a magnifying glass.

I don't know much about this fuss for fucking ice cream but I could go for a drink. Tacos if they got any.

[Jimmy's just going to saunter right up when Mr. White is talking, giving him that quintessentially half-cocky half-cheesy grin.]

Hey.

[Midsip, White turns. At first he has apprehension on his face. Hey is a pretty neutral greeting and he wasn't expecting anyone. Oh. A smile breaks on his face too.]

Son of a bitch. Have a seat.

[The stool is yours beside him, Jimmy.]

How the fuck're you?

[He plops onto the stool gladly.]

Well, I'm a hell of a lot better, since we got outta that damn prison. You?

Same. Even better then that. I fucking hate that.

[Now he'll take a hearty sip.]

You want something?

[Since they're having specials that is.]

Confidentially speaking, pal... you been in before?

Yeah, I'll have whatever you're havin'.

[He shakes his head.]

Nah, but I ain't sayin' there haven't been times where I probably shoulda been.

[He just hasn't gotten caught for most of what he's done.]

[Some fancy tequila concoction. Sunrise, sunset. One of those. Delicious that's what it fucking is.]

Hey. I think that no matter who anybody is, they have their moments.

[White shifts in his chair. With no where to go and because he started with the direct questions he has to answer.]

Yeah. Twice. It's all bullshit. This time wasn't as bad because of how long. It's still a lock up.

[And since he hasn't felt entirely the same. Back to normal is exactly what he wants but what the fuck is normal.]

Real glad we made it.

I'm glad we made it too, but y'know, it's bullshit anyway. We didn't even get a fair trial. Back home, at least, we get a fuckin' trial before they put us away.

[Or you get shot, but that's not quite the same.]

What'd you do to get locked up those two times?

[He's not sure if Mr. White'll answer the question, but he might as well ask it, right?]

Trial. Sentencing. All that piss and shit.

[Delightful. Yeah. Absolute respect for the system. Larry shifts some and doesn't recognize any faces hanging around. He leans closer to Jimmy. His demeanor, what he knows of him makes it easier to spill some beans. He's a young family man, he wants to get his life together. Not like he'd fuck him over.]

Armed robbery.

[They had a frank crime discussion before with the curse that made him talk too fucking much.]

[Armed robbery is kind of what he was guessing, given the conversation they'd had before, but it's kind of good to hear confirmation when the other guy isn't cursed, too.]

Yeah? Did you at least rob somethin' good?

[He has some experience with that particular crime himself, but he's never been arrested for it, thankfully.]

Yeah. Would have been a great payout if I didn't fuck it up. The first time I made a lot of mistakes, young you know?

[The drink is cold in his hands.]

I learned to be more careful. You have to. That's not quite what I'm up to. I take a serious offense for getting locked up so fucking fast. The whole thing felt like a set up but...

[White shakes his head.]

Real glad it's behind us.

Yeah, I know. I got some experience in that area myself.

[Despite not being arrested, it hadn't gone well. He takes a sip of his drink.]

It's behind us, 'n now we can move on to some better shit.

[The bartender comes back with Jimmy's drink that he can enjoy.]

Amen to that.

[White offers his glass to clink for a short toast.]

Like what now? You said awhile back you were looking for work. Still on that?

Yeah, I'm still interested in findin' somethin' else. I mean, I wanna keep the job I have, too, but I get bored, y'know.

What is it that you do right now again?

[Another job. Well. He is young.]

You should find yourself a career. Something you won't have to go to someplace else.

[Could this be paternal advice or just...advice advice? White is used to the later.]

[He laughs.]

Well, I work in retail. In the magic joke shop, y'know. Funny, 'cause I don't know the first thing about magic tricks, much less real magic, but hey, it's a job. Ain't a career, though. I'd've liked to have had one, but...

[A shrug. He clearly thinks it's too late, at this point.]

Real magic. [Riiiight. Well. City curses and whatever, that's real enough.]

But? Come on. No bullshit. Go for it. You gotta come to the casino. See what's what.

[This is reaffirmed with a solid pat pat to the shoulder. He sort of elbows someone behind him on the return oops.]

Well, there're people around here who can do real magic! I just ain't one of 'em.

[He shrugs again, although the pat on his shoulder makes him smile a little.]

Yeah? What do you do at the casino?

I can do a card trick or two. That's all.

[Oh. Is the guy behind him grumbling. White puts a look over his shoulder. It's just grumbling so he ignores.]

Security. I walk around and make sure that no one's causing shit. If there is, I stop it. I throw people out. I make sure that whoever tries to give the boss trouble won't give much again. Sort of fell into it.

Sounds like an okay job. Is the boss okay?

[Jimmy eyes the guy behind them, making sure he's not liable to start any trouble. As long as he's just grumbling about it, it's fine.]

I like it. I like it more than I thought I would. The last real sort of a job I had was construction when I was younger than you.

[A long time ago. Heh.]

Yeah. Generous when the mood strikes him. When shit gets heavy though, he cracks down.

[Normal enough though right. The noise is starting to get on White's nerves. He turns some and gives a pointed look. Really? Really. Feeling confident enough he turns back around except.... this isn't the end.

The hardass in the Stetson feels disrespected. A bad day at the leather work joint. The lady friend isn't contacting and some old dude and his son or whatever are elbowing and glaring. Disaster is in the making.]

Sounds kinda like an old boss of mine. Not too bad, workin' for someone like that, as long as you stay on their good side.

[Which he... hadn't. Oh well.]

Hey, y'know, that guy looks pretty pissed off...

[Jimmy's seen enough pissed off people in his time -- pissed off enough people in his time, too -- to recognize the look of someone who might want to pick a fight, and that guy looks like a prime candidate.]

Bingo. He trusts me. I'll put in a good word for you.

[That feels like some sort of a good deed on White's part. Some sort of good luck for Jimmy.]

Huh? That guy?

[White turns and he doesn't look all that surprised.]

We're in a pretty spacious bar, pal. You can either fuck off or deal. Either way your stuck with that face.

[Looks like he is up for the third option going to try and lay the first blow. Hah. Shame! They were having a nice conversation.]

Hey, thanks.

[He really does appreciate that. Not a whole lot of people would be willing to put in a good word for him. It's enough to put a smile on his face... a smile that doesn't last too long as he realizes this jerk sitting behind them is going to ruin their conversation -- which just means he has to chime in with his own insult:]

Yeah, I'd suggest fuckin' off, if I were you.

[And of course Jimmy is standing up from his stool to make his statement more emphatic.]

[That's the problem with manly men. Stetson wearing son of a gun is ready to swing for a punch. White is up too and there we go. He misses and the old man lays one to him solid in the chest enough to knock him back. Whoops. Well, the person by him doesn't have the same attitude problem. He just pushes him forward and this time he's ready with his fists.

Great. Well. They were having a really good conversation and connecting. Temporary interruption is now.]

[Jimmy doesn't like it one bit when the asshole in the hat takes a swing at White, even though he's pretty sure White can take care of himself. It pisses him off that they'd been enjoying themselves and these guys had gone and ruined it. Which is why when he finally throws a punch, it's a hard one, right into that Stetson wearing asshole's face.]
