[The video opens on, well, a man of somewhat indeterminate age in a relatively nondescript room. It's an apartment. Okay. We've got that much. Maybe you, the viewer, even know the man himself. That's an idea.
The sofa on which he's sitting looks a little threadbare and secondhand. The camera of the Network device is low, as if he's set it on a coffee table to record himself. The decor might be describe as "bachelor squalor chic." It's not so bad. Just a little run-down. Anyway, he starts off all smiles and scruffy faces, sitting there on his secondhand sofa in his jeans, with his hands hanging between his knees... But maybe it looks a little like a forced smile. Like he's trying to put on a happy face despite...some worry...]
Sure has been quiet lately, with everyone locked up. It's kind of sad, really. Isn't it? It's just--the streets all empty, and the only time you see anyone is when you go pay them a visit during visiting hours. And what good is that? [He shakes his head, looking grimly at the floor.] I've visited more than a few friends in prison. There's no shame in admitting that. It's harder on them than it was on me. That was back in Arizona. [Another slow shake of his head.] You just don't forget seeing people you know on the other side of the bars. Makes all this quiet all the worse.
[An unpleasant yowling sound, verily a caterwaul, comes from off-screen. He looks to the side, skeptically.]
You like it?
[Another yowl.]
You probably would. But it's a holiday and everything, c'mon.
[Another yowl.]
Sure it's a holiday! Everyone knows that! It's May Eve! Beltane! Walpurgis Night! [A sigh of strange feigned nostalgia] Aaaaaah Walpurgis Night!
[And even as he says this, he's picking up the Network device and swinging it around to show whoever, whatever, it is that's sitting on the sofa beside him and...]
[The disgruntled and hairless beast occupies the majority of the screen now. It lounges on the sofa cushion as if it owns it. And yet...it seems rather territorial. The camera comes in close on its face. His voice comes from behind the camera.]
Say "Happy Walpurgis Night!"
[A prolonged and growling yowl. With an additional secondary caterwaul as a coda. This creature has fangs as well as claws.]
There you go! That goes out to all of you unfairly imprisoned by the current iteration of The Man. I figure you're all basically political prisoners, more or less. We'll have a bonfire in your honor tonight and all that other kind of thing.
[To the cat(? cat).] And happy Walpurgis Night to you too.
[Another yowl, followed by a growl. The camera is still trained on the beastie. But he starts up a kind of falsely-ominous sing-song rhyme:]
"Now to the Brocken the witches ride;
The stubble is gold and the corn is green;
There is the carnival crew to be seen,
And Squire Urianus will come to preside.
So over the valleys our company floats,
With witches a-farting on stinking old goats."
[Yooooowl.]
Sure I know Faust. C'mon. Are you kidding me? That's classic literature.
[Displeased yowl. He turns the camera back on himself. Another howling yowl comes from beside him. But he's just grinning at the camera, all teeth and bright eyes.]
He followed me home. Can I keep him?
[One last howling caterwaul. Still grinning, he turns the camera off and the image vanishes in a blink.]
