[ There is a kind of careful neutrality in Lin's voice right now. ]

Roommates: I am escorting Korra down to the station to answer a few questions.

And then I am going to yoga. [ She needs to relax. ]

[filtered to police force]

Got another stabber coming in. Woman at the hospital reported it. I thought we should at least follow up, make sure it was curse-related.

I can't work this one for personal reasons, anyone want to take it?

[ ooc: Korra stabbed Chekov, Uhura reported it, and Lin's bringing her in. Yep. ]

[Korra is curled up in the waiting room, waiting to be questioned, and she is....well, she's something. Many things.

Resentful that she's being brought in because of something she did during a curse.

Afraid still that it wasn't just the curse.

Guilty. Grieving. Anxious. Frustrated. Angry. Too many feelings to comprehend, much less handle.]

[Justin enters the waiting room to fetch Korra. They've met in passing (he suspects he can say that of almost everyone in the City), but he doesn't remember much about her. The information in the report that Nyota Uhura filed, however, doesn't fit the girl. She looks scared.

Hopefully this won't get too emotional.]

Korra? I'm Justin Pendleton. Come with me, please.

[To the "interrogation room," which is... just a room. No one-way mirrors, a camera in one corner, and nondescript table and chairs.]

[Korra looks up when the guy -- he can't be much older than she is -- calls her up. She surpreses a brief urge to resist and stands.]

Okay.

[He's a little older than he looks, but no, the age difference isn't significant. Justin has only advanced so far in his City career because he's been there longer than anyone else on the force. (All of that aside, Korra wouldn't have to try very hard to take him in a fight.)

He ushers her to the room and gestures for her to take a chair. He takes the opposite.]

I assume you know you're here because you've been accused of the murder of Pavel Chekov.

[She flinches at his words. Yes, she's well aware why she's here.]

Is he okay?

[She knows that people don't always die during curses -- not even the non-death that characterizes the City.]

[Maybe he was too blunt, but the telltale flinch is encouraging. People who want to kill don't flinch. Her question throws him off, though.]

Wh--yes. He was fine when he was in.

[He doesn't know what Korra wants him to say. Surely she already knew that he was alive again. Anyway. Justin returns to the clear, cold script that he's more comfortable with.]

Typically, actions taken while cursed are dismissed when it's clear that the curse was at fault. In the report regarding you, there were indications that there have been past physical altercations between you and Pavel Chekov. Would you like to comment on that?

[Uhura has staunchly refused to tell Korra anything. She's operating entirely on assumptions at this point.

She looks up, briefly indignant when he says "physical altercations."]

What? I would never -- [hurt Chekov. Except she did.] It was just normal stuff. There wasn't anything different about it. [She treated Chekov the way she treats everybody when she gets mad. Only difference is, Chekov's never made her mad before.]

[They are what they are.]

What would you never do? [His tone is free of accusation... and just about any other emotion.] I have to ask you to be more specific about what "normal stuff" consists of. I'm aware that you sparred together.

I just pushed him a little. That's it!

Is that what started the altercation that resulted in his demise? Something normal?

Yeah....no....kind of? I don't know!

[She and Chekov so rarely argue, it feels weird saying that it was "normal." At the same time, it wasn't like some earth-shattering, world-changing, realign-the-cosmos argument.]

It would've blown over...

Calm down. Can you tell me what happened?

[SHE IS TOTALLY CALM RIGHT NOW. Except in the way that she's not. She forces herself to take a breath.]

We were arguing. I told him to leave, but he wouldn't, so I went inside the house. I was just gonna stay inside and wait for him to go away, but he just sat on the beach. And I...grabbed a knife..... [She gulps, tries to force the words out, but she can't. Instead, she just shrugs -- the rest is obvious.]

[He nods, indicating that she doesn't need to elaborate further.]

I assume that was out of the realm of normalcy.

[She wants to shout "OF COURSE IT WAS!" but the best she can manage is a weak nod.]

[He has to be thorough.]

Then you're free to go, unless you have something self-incriminating to say.

I am?

You were cursed, you've shown remorse for your actions, and the victim wasn't interested in filing a formal complaint. Unless you have objections, there's no reason for you to stay here.

[He wasn't? Of course Chekov wasn't. That's the kind of person Chekov is. She'll have to talk to him as soon as she gets out of here.

Which she can do. Right now.]

[He stands and holds the door leading back to the lobby open for her.]

Thank you for your time.

[She nods in silent acknowledgement and hurries out as quickly as she can.]
