Twenty-eight is the second perfect number and the third Granville number. It's the atomic mass of silicon, the fourth magic number in physics. It's the number of days in a moon cycle.

It's the number of years I've been alive.

No, but I've seen a lot of people being followed. I'm assuming this is a curse of some kind?

Most likely. October. They might try and kill you.

That's the second time I've heard that about October. What's the deal with this month?

The curses are always a little more violent.

Why?

I presume it's for Halloween.

Halloween. What's that?

Its a holiday at the end of the month. People dress up as monsters and scare each other.

That sounds like fun. [She grins] But why?

It's a adaptation of All Souls Day, the day that some religions believed was when ghosts could visit the living.

So they'd dress up like monsters to scare the ghosts away?
