[By nightfall, Chekov has traded the university for the beach. It's a quiet enough location when no one is holding an impromptu party and, most importantly, it offers the best view of the sky in the City (the best view, that is, that can be had without trekking up a small mountain). The seventeen year-old is alternating between stargazing and writing--drawing?--in a notebook, aided by the light function of his network device.]

Did your Mandarin test go well? I passed the English proficiency test but I was told that I am difficult to understand even if I (usually) say the correct thing.

no. in fact i even passed everything.

that was the most fun i've ever had taking a test.

If it was fun you must have done well.

You would not have enjoyed it if you were going to fail.

I'm done as well. Do you want me to come by your place? I could be there in maybe twenty minutes?

[For the purposes of this curse, Chekov has been relocated to the apartment (but Tessa will know that). He gets there first and waits for her outside his door.]

[ And there she is; jeans and a short-sleeved top (which would only be remarkable, really, if she weren't cursed), waving and then, once she's in front of him, leaning in for a hug.

And a kiss, maybe. ] Hi.

[A hug and a kiss? Happy to oblige.] Hello, Tessa. Did your finals go well?

[ Yes, please. ]

They went all right, I think. Not sure about English, but I think I did okay? How are you?

I'm sure you will get all A's. Good, good--happy to be done with classes.

Maybe. [ Modest, then, with a grin: ] We'll see, right? Have you eaten anything yet?

No, you will. [Oh, stop it.] Not yet. You? I would take you somewhere.

I've had a sandwich earlier. I could cook, if you want. [ A beat. ] Or we could go somewhere.

I would rather stay here, but not if you're convinced that you need to cook. [He unlocks his apartment and holds the door open for her.]

I wouldn't mind. I bet you haven't eaten all day, again. [ He's sweet. Smiling while she walks in. ]

You are too smart for your own good. If you keep insisting...

McCoy does not expect you this evening, does he?

I have to be home before midnight.

[ To the kitchen, then, and to inspect the contents of his fridge. ]

Before midnight? Does he think you'll turn into a pumpkin if you are out too late?

[He trails after her. The fridge and pantry are stocked with real food, surprisingly enough.]

I don't think he's worried about the pumpkin thing.

[ Well. She won't make anything elaborate. ]

He's worried about...? [It doesn't need to be said, does it?] He should trust you more than that.

[ Shrugging a little helplessly. ] I think he just worries, generally. He doesn't want me to get hurt.

[ But she doesn't think that Pavel will hurt her, not voluntarily, not ever. ]

As if I am any threat to you.

[He wouldn't, but seriously. Of all of the people in the City, Chekov is one of the least menacing.]

I know you're not.

[ Turning towards him, and then stepping closer. ] Hey, don't look like that. I'm sure he knows, too. He's my dad, I think he's obliged to.

Yes, I suppose so.

[He takes that as an invitation to swoop in for a hug.]

What if I didn't let you go home?

[ That is exactly what it was. She settles her head against his shoulder. ]

I suppose we would have to come up with a good reason for me to stay here.

Perhaps you were abducted by aliens on the way home.

That would be tragic. You'd come rescue me, right? [ Leaning up to press a kiss against his jaw. ]

Of course I would. [He dips his head to find her lips. If there's going to be kissing, it's going to be proper kissing.] Although... I would not return you right away.

I thought so. [ Proper kissing, hm? She likes that, kissing back, slow and so pleased, pressing a little closer.

She loves spending time with him; loves how much of a gentleman he is and how kind and good he is to her. Loves the small gestures of affection— but she loves this, too, his lips sliding against hers, and she can't help but want more of it, sometimes. ]

I would not mind if you took your time returning me.

[It's difficult to reply and kiss, so Chekov doesn't bother with the former.

There isn't anything he doesn't love about Tessa. Everything about her from the bright smile that she graces him with when he tells a bad joke to her patience when he doesn't know what to do with his hands when they're kissing is endearing.

He draws even closer to her. There is no such thing as close enough.]

[ She's glad he chose to do the latter; the kissing is too nice to stop now, and she comes willingly when he pulls her closer, one hand tangling in the material of his shirt and the other coming to rest on his back.

How much and how obviously he loves her is another thing that she loves about him; sometimes she still finds it hard to believe that she should be so lucky. ]

[His hands haven't moved from their initial location at the small of Tessa's back. He isn't sure what is permissible and what is not; testing boundaries isn't worth potentially scaring Tessa away, even if Chekov suspects that she wouldn't scare easily.

He traps her hand between them. There isn't any space left--only them, each flush against the other.]

[ She wouldn't scare easily; in fact, depending on the boundary she may well be pleased to see it tested and possibly disregarded. This, just this, is wonderful, though, and she doesn't want to stop.

She makes a soft sound at the back of her throat, pleased and shifts against him, tilting her head a little to deepen the kiss. ]

[He responds in kind--until uncertainty forces him to backpedal. They're on the brink of something and he doesn't want to step over the edge without being certain that it's okay, that it's what they both want.

It's hard to pull away, however briefly.]

Tessa... [And, looking at her, whatever words he might have had vanish.]

[ She wants to linger, but forces herself to keep still, looking up at him, wide-eyed and unable to keep a smile from showing.

They've kissed before, but never more; to think that they might— it's exciting and scary all at once, but she trusts him, more than anyone else. ]

Do you want— [ Fingers of one hand touching his hip, resting just under the hem of his shirt and the feeling of skin against skin, however little, comes as a jolt.

She isn't sure what she is asking, but hopefully he will understand regardless. ]

[His breath catches at her touch.]

I do. [He understands, even if he's not entirely sure what he understands.] Only if you also do.

[ She nods, slowly, touch a little surer now even though she doesn't move her fingers at all. ]

Yes.

[His heart's racing, but he smiles.]

I love you.

[Perhaps it goes without saying. He kisses her softly.]

[ She loves him, too, so much sometimes that it feels as though she couldn't possibly hold all of these emotions, but instead of replying with words, she kisses him back. It's gentle and slow and she wants closer. ]
