[The device flickers on showing two pairs of legs. One is wearing jeans and black boots. The other pair of legs belongs to something not even remotely human. There's some runes chalked on the concrete in what appears to be some sort of circle. There's also a thick line of salt in a circle outside of the runed one. The silence is puncuated by some grunts and whimpers through grit teeth and then, quite suddenly, a gurgled scream.

There's a whirring sound and the device lens unfocuses and pans back to refocus. Dean Winchester is in the middle of the circle and the non-human is something from the Underground with way too many teeth. The monster is hanging from a hook on a chain, the type used to move cargo or meat around. The monster's arms are over his head and his legs are bound with another chain. Dean has the point of a knife dug into the monster's shoulder and he's twisting it, placing just enough pressure on the knife to keep ti drilling into the monster's shoulder as he twists it in slow rotations. There's already a good deal of thick, red blood on the floor and from the looks of Dean's injuries (mostly superficial, recieved when he caught the monster) it's not his blood. The monster on the other hand isn't doing so well. He's covered in blood and hanging sort of slack against the chain.

The most disturbing part isn't the way the monster is trussed up or the open toolbox displaying a wide variety of things that could, and judging from the blood stains on them, have been used to torture the monster. The most disturbing part is the look on Dean's face.

Someone's enjoying this and it isn't the monster.]

Eats little girls. And who ever else it can catch.

[And now Chekov's pushing some buttons. What, trying to hack into Dean's device remotely to determine his coordinates? Never. Definitely not.]

[Dean is a gorilla when it comes to technology so he's not going to offer any resistance to Chekov's hacking. He's in an abandoned building in the Underground far off the safe path.]

You cuff him, drag him down to the station, stick him in jail and have a trial then. Don't get eaten in the process.

I will do something like that.

[Consider this transmission cut. Eventually, though, Dean's going to have to deal with a kid who has figured out how primitive ballistics work and is very disappointed in Dean's behavior.]

[By the time Chekov gets there, Dean will be just about finished, cleaning up and the like. He really will hate himself for disappointing a kid he likes.]

[It does take some time for Chekov to maneuver the Underground; being tech-savvy and 'Fleet-trained doesn't make the path any less winding or the monsters any less inclined to attack (but the modified stun-gun does a satisfactory job of dropping the monsters before it becomes necessary to break out the shotgun). He enters from a tunnel behind Dean.]

You killed it?

[Dean looks up when Chekov walks in. He grunts a sort of answer.]

Yup.

[What a messy place. Chekov suspects it was not so messy before Dean arrived. He moves to stand just behind and to the right of him, looking at what he's doing.]

Why did you do what you did?

It's evil. There's no telling how many people it's killed. Do I need a better reason?

[It's not the real reason but he's gotten confessional enough with Justin. He doesn't need to spill his guts to anyone else.]

Not for killing it, maybe. For torturing...

[There's no real need to finish that sentence--or to be here, since Dean finished the creature off. Back to the tunnels.]

[tersely] I hope you do not get blood on your vehicle today. Maybe this is not a story you would like her to tell.

[Dean really hates that he's disappointed Chekov. He likes the kid. When he speaks his voice is full of regret, but for that, not for what he did.]

Look. It's not that simple.

[Chekov isn't so eager to be disappointed that he won't listen to anything Dean might have to say in his own defense.]

Can you explain it to me?

[Dean scrubs a hand over his hair, trying to decide if he actually can explain it to him.]

I need to take it out on something that actually deserves some pain instead of the people who don't. Maybe it didn't deserve the pain I gave it but it deserved it a whole lot more than the girl who spilled coffee all over me this morning.

[It's the truth. It's just an extremely edited version.]

If it's any consolation, I usually control this shit and just stuff it all down, top it off with a bottle of whiskey.

[That makes sense. It's not good, but it's sense.]

That is how one of my shipmates controls things: by ignoring them and drinking. I doubt the effectiveness of this method.

[Dean quirks an eyebrow at Chekov.]

And, when you are frustrated, torture the nasty things.

Not usually, but yeah. Sometimes.

[He clearly has no idea where to go with this. Torture just isn't something that the good guys do at home, but Dean obviously isn't a bad guy.

No. I'm--[Dean stops and clears his throat.] really sorry you had to see that. [He stops and shakes his head.]

You going to be okay getting back to the overground?

You do not usually do this. [Maybe that makes it better.

He nods to the gun he's carrying. It might not kill monsters, but it's worked so far.] I did make it here. I will be fine.
