Next month will mark a year I've been here, and this is, I believe, the third time I've seen this come round. A popular curse.

No party at the bar, this time. But perhaps if you're fortunate someone will buy you a drink.

[So what if he did. Few people are so well-suited to one another's company.]

Though I don't believe you've ever bought a drink in my bar.

Didn't I? I thought for sure the first time I visited, I bought a drink to celebrate its opening. Perhaps I didn't. I'd remedy that now, but I don't have any money.

[Or rather, he just has a bunch of useless money from home.]

You might have, [he concedes.] I wasn't in the habit of charging you, though.

[Not in cash, at least. A barter system does have its place.]

No, you always were very... generous. I'll drop by soon.

[He remembers his way, at least. And he'll be coming through the door soon enough.]

[The bar is crowded-- it's usually well-populated enough, but every part of the City is crowded, today-- and Isaak is sitting toward the back, at a low table not far from the hall that leads to his office. He's waiting without looking like he's waiting.]

[Well, hello there, Isaak. Did you miss him? He's just going to sit right down at Isaak's table, looking as comfortable as can be, with a little smile.]

[Well, there's no shame in missing good company. There's a touch of a smile on his lips in return.]

Good of you to visit.

Well, I certainly couldn't pass up the opportunity to see how your business is coming.

[And to see you, Isaak, but that goes without saying.]

You look good. Successful.

Entertainment does well here. In general.

[Not all bars do as well as his, but Isaak isn't one to brag. At least, not so explicitly.]

Apparently so. And you've always been... entertaining.

[At least, he's always thought so.]

You've always been good company.

[This is as close to sentimental as they can get, really.]

I believe you wanted me to buy you a drink?

I certainly wouldn't say no to a drink. What else is there to do around here, anyway?

As I recall you usually had some ideas.

I always have been good at keeping busy. Those ideas are still the same, despite my recent absence.

[This is one of so many reasons why you're such good company, Andrei.]

Well, then.

[He gestures toward the bar, as if to say shall we?

He has no intention of returning to the table, after.]

Certainly. And while we drink...

[He stands up, making his way towards the bar.]

Oh, little out of what passes for ordinary. October was rather dreadful. Well-suited for Halloween, I expect.

I'm glad I missed it, then.

[Not that things back home have been exactly... great, but no sense in bringing that up now.]

And you've been stuck here all this time?

The holiday is beginning to wear a bit thin.

I've never much enjoyed it myself, but I'm sure you had plenty of people coming to the bar to celebrate. I imagine it was good for business, at least.

I've never been in too great a hurry to return home, but after a year... I do feel as though I'm treading water. At least the bar keeps me entertained.

Maybe you can take on another business interest. Keep yourself busy.

I've considered it.

[Potentially a less than legal one. Old habits, eh?]

I'd offer to be a part of your new business ventures, too, but I think my time here will be temporary.

It seems quite likely.
